Terms of use

1. Agreement.

These terms apply when you use the Renovation app or getrenovation.app. By using them you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use Renovation.

2. Who can use it.

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a contract. Renovation is built for homes in the United States. You are responsible for your account and for keeping access to your sign-in method secure.

3. What this is.

The app organizes a cosmetic home renovation into an ordered plan, estimates materials, and shows general step-by-step guidance. It is educational information, not professional advice, and not a substitute for a licensed contractor, engineer, inspector, or your local building department.

Most guides are drafts written from standard practice and manufacturer instructions and are being reviewed by practitioners; each guide that has not been reviewed yet is marked in the app. Where a guide and a product label differ, follow the label.

4. Your responsibility.

You decide what to do yourself. You are responsible for checking permit requirements, building codes, HOA rules, product instructions, and your own ability and safety. Stop when the app tells you to stop, and when in doubt.

5. Safety and hazardous materials.

Work on electrical beyond a like-for-like swap, gas, plumbing inside walls, structural elements, and anything that needs a permit requires licensed professionals; the app marks these jobs and stops you before you start. Shower waterproofing is a job where one mistake causes hidden water damage: follow the system manufacturer exactly and have it inspected where your city requires. Homes built before 1978 may contain lead paint; materials from before 1980 may contain asbestos. Test before disturbing.

6. The step helper.

Answers from the step helper are generated by AI from the guide and what you send it. They can be incomplete or wrong. Check them against the guide, product labels and local rules, and never rely on them for work the app marks as contractor-only.

7. Room previews.

Pictures of your room with a new look are generated by AI. Colors, sizes, products and the staging (decor, furniture) are approximate. They show an idea, not a promise of how finished work or a product will look.

8. Estimates.

Material quantities, savings, and time are estimates based on your measurements and typical coverage rates. Actual needs vary. Verify with product labels and your own measurements.

9. Contractors.

When you ask, we may forward your job request to an independent contractor, or show licensed contractors from your state's public license records. We do not employ, supervise, or guarantee contractors. Verify licenses with your state's contractor license board (in California, cslb.ca.gov) and use written contracts. Contractors may pay us for job requests; homeowners do not.

10. Retailer links.

We may earn a commission when you buy through links in the app, at no extra cost to you. Prices, availability, and returns are set by the retailer.

11. Price.

This version of Renovation is free. If we add paid features, we show the price before you buy. Purchases in the iPhone app are handled by Apple under Apple's terms, and purchases in the Android app by Google Play under Google's terms.

12. Your content.

You own the photos, measurements, and notes you add. You give us permission to store and process them only to run Renovation for you, including sending them to a contractor when you ask. Only upload photos you have the right to use, and do not upload other people's personal information.

13. Acceptable use.

Do not misuse Renovation: no attempts to break or overload it, access other people's accounts, scrape it, or use it for anything illegal.

14. Our app.

We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use Renovation. The guides, diagrams, clips, and software belong to us or our licensors. If you downloaded the app from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.

15. Ending your account.

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

16. No warranty; limitation of liability.

The app is provided as is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for property damage, injury, or losses arising from work you or others perform.

Our total liability for any claim about Renovation is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. You agree to cover our costs if a claim against us comes from your misuse of the app or from work you did or ordered. Some states do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

17. Law and changes.

California law governs these terms. If we change them, we update the date at the top, and material changes are shown in the app before they take effect.
